Custom E-Size Gobos for CHAUVET DJ Gobo Zoom 2

Posted by GoboUltra on

A custom glass gobo can project a standalone wordmark or a detailed, full-color design. Color selection and background selection are separate decisions. These two original GoboUltra factory photographs show a white Fable wordmark without a filled background circle and multicolor circular artwork with an illuminated white background. Both were photographed during testing before shipping.

The photographs show the factory setup, not a customer venue installation. They are useful references for choosing an artwork layout and reviewing a proof.

The customer's projector: CHAUVET DJ Gobo Zoom 2

For this project, the customer identified their projector as the CHAUVET DJ Gobo Zoom 2, and GoboUltra produced E-size custom glass gobos for the order. The photographs document our artwork test before shipping. The customer's model is recorded separately from the factory test equipment, whose model has not been documented.

CHAUVET DJ's official Gobo Zoom 2 specifications list an E-size gobo with a 37.5 mm outside diameter, 22 mm image area and 1 mm maximum thickness. These are the manufacturer's fixture requirements, not measurements taken from the photographed gobos. Match the image area and thickness as well as the outside diameter; an E-size label alone does not establish compatibility.

Two custom gobo designs, photographed before shipping

The first photograph shows the Fable lettering and its decorative outline. The surrounding ceiling remains visible instead of becoming a filled white disc. The second photograph shows a circular composition containing colored lettering, smaller text, illustrations and a blue border, with a white illuminated field behind the design.

These are two different artworks photographed in a factory environment. They are not a controlled brightness or projector comparison, and they should not be used to judge which design is brighter at the same distance.

Does a black gobo background project a black circle?

No. Black masking areas block the projector's light; they do not project black light. With a Logo Only layout, light passes through the intended artwork while the surrounding receiving surface remains visible under the existing room lighting.

A white-background layout allows light through the background area, creating an illuminated field around the artwork. The second test photograph shows this effect as a white circle containing the full design. Dark parts within that circle are areas receiving less projector light, not black light being projected.

Full color does not require a white background

Full color describes the colors in the artwork. Logo Only describes whether a surrounding illuminated background is included. They are not opposite product categories: a color design can be prepared without a filled white background, subject to artwork review. Confirm the color option and the background treatment separately when approving your proof.

A simplified wordmark gives the lettering more of the design's visual space. A detailed composition can retain more brand elements, but small text and fine illustrations deserve extra attention at the intended viewing distance. Choose the layout for what people need to recognize in your actual space.

What to check before approving your gobo proof

  1. Artwork and spelling. Check the exact wording, letter shapes, outline, spacing and any contact text in your own design.
  2. Background choice. State whether you want Logo Only or an illuminated white background. Do not assume the dark or white background in a file will be interpreted as you intended.
  3. Color and detail. Check the requested colors and the size of small text. A photo or screen preview is not a measured guarantee of the final projected color.
  4. Projector fit. Confirm the fixture brand and model, gobo outside diameter, image area and permitted thickness before production.
  5. Installation and timing. Share the lens-to-surface distance, desired image width and height, surface, ambient light, mounting position and required arrival date.

For file preparation and the approval steps, read our custom gobo artwork and proof approval guide. If you are replacing an existing insert, use the gobo size and measurement guide alongside your projector's specifications.

What these factory photographs can tell you

The original images document the two projected designs in the factory test area. Ceiling seams and surrounding structures remain visible. The article photographs preserve the supplied files without simulated projection effects or replacement scenery.

Installed appearance depends on the projector, lens, projection distance, image size, surface, ambient lighting and angle. Camera exposure and white balance also affect photographed brightness and color. No measured test distance, image dimensions, illuminance or projector wattage has been supplied for these images, so this article does not use them to recommend a specific power or throw distance.

Questions about custom glass gobo artwork

Can one gobo display both of these designs?

These photographs show separate artwork designs. An individual patterned gobo carries its own artwork. Switching between separate gobos depends on the projector's holder or switching mechanism; these photos do not demonstrate an automatic image-switching projector.

Is a full-color gobo always supplied with a white circle?

No. Background treatment is an artwork choice. Send the original file and specify whether you want an illuminated background or Logo Only, then confirm the prepared design before production.

Does ordering a custom glass gobo include a projector?

No. A custom glass gobo is the patterned insert used inside a compatible projector. The projector is sold separately.
